BPIA Park

ORANGE AVENUE-MERIDIAN SITE IMPROVEMENTS

Project Location:

Tallahassee, Florida

Construction Completed:

2019

Project Elements:

George & Associates, Consulting Engineers, Inc. was tasked by Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency to provide civil engineering services for site improvements to the one acre site at the intersection of Orange Ave. and S. Meridian St.  This project was a top priority for the Blueprint 2020 program. The improvements created a community gathering space consisting of a greenspace with picnic tables, sidewalks, a drinking fountain, bike racks, trash receptacles, a parking lot, storm drainage, ADA compliant parking spaces, and a restroom. Additional features were added, including a ‘Little Free Library’, a Kiosk and a performance platform.

Also, G&A analyzed and modeled the existing stormwater facility in XPSWMM Modeling Software to demonstrate that the existing stormwater management facility had additional capacity, while also mitigating impacts to adjacent floodplain and floodways.

WIth the new park, families can now gather for events, or users can enjoy a respite to read a book at one of the shaded tables. The performance platform can be used by the community for impromptu performances or for additional seating for food vendors. Multiple modes of transportation can be used, with the park featuring both parking spaces and bike racks. The final result of this park project is an amenity of which all residents can be proud and enjoy.
