FLORIDA PUBLIC SAFETY INSTITUTE COMP PLAN AMENDMENT

Project Location:

Gadsden County, Florida

Project Elements:

George & Associates led a multidisciplinary team in completing a large scale comprehensive plan land use amendment for the Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI) near Quincy, Florida. FPSI, which is owned by Tallahassee Community College, is a premier training site for law enforcement agencies. Approximately 874 acres, which were designated as “Agricultural 3” land use, were amended to “Public” use by this amendment process, allowing for the expansion of training facilities at FPSI in accordance with its Master Plan. This process required close coordination with Gadsden County Planning staff, as well as, organization and presentation of a public meeting and hearings. A thorough evaluation of the proposed change was conducted in accordance with the state land planning agencies requirements that included traffic impact study, environmental impacts and cultural resource impacts. The proposed land use change was accomplished on schedule with minimal comments from the numerous review agencies.
